An Evening of Harmony: Christmas Carols at Ibah
On the evening of 22 November 2025, guests arrived at Ibah in Ubud to the sound of
quiet conversations drifting through the gardens as staff lit candles along the stone
pathways and choir members gathered backstage with red music folders tucked
beneath their arms.
By sunset, the open-air venue had filled with nearly 100 audience members seated
across the lawn beneath hanging lights and tropical trees. Some arrived with friends
and family, while others came alone and found themselves drawn into conversation
with people at nearby tables before the music even began.

Bali Community Choir opened the evening with a first set of Christmas carols
performed from the garden stage framed by greenery and soft lighting. As dusk settled
over the venue, songs such as Silent Night and O Holy Night carried through the space
with the natural stillness that comes when an audience is fully listening.
The atmosphere shifted gently as the program moved into lighter pieces including
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and We Wish You a Merry Christmas. Audience
members smiled across tables, children moved between seats near the garden steps,
and familiar melodies prompted quiet singing from different corners of the audience
long before the official finale began.
During the refreshment break, the evening continued without losing momentum.
Guests remained scattered throughout the gardens talking beneath the lights while
choir members moved easily between conversations, greeting supporters, meeting
new audience members, and sharing stories about the repertoire and rehearsals
behind the performance.
Away from the audience, choir members prepared for the second set beneath the
covered walkways of the venue. Some reviewed music quietly together while others
adjusted folders, shared last-minute encouragement, or simply took a brief moment to
rest before returning to the stage. These quieter moments behind the performance
reflected the care and commitment that shaped the evening long before the audience
arrived.

By the final carol, the distance between performers and audience had almost
disappeared entirely. Voices from across the garden joined together during the closing
song, with audience members singing from their seats while others stood nearby
beneath the trees. What began as a choir performance ended as something shared
more collectively across the space.

Even after the music finished, many guests stayed. Small groups gathered for
photographs beside the Christmas decorations, conversations continued along the
pathways, and choir members lingered with audience members well into the evening
rather than packing up immediately after the final song

Bali Community Choir extends heartfelt thanks to Ibu Asri for her generous hospitality,
to the volunteers and venue partners whose work helped shape the evening behind the
scenes, and to every choir member who gave their time, preparation, and energy to the
performance. Most importantly, thank you to the audience members whose presence,
participation, and openness helped create the welcoming atmosphere that defined the
event.
An Evening of Harmony: Christmas Carols at Ibah reflected the kind of gathering Bali
Community Choir continues to value most: one where music creates space not only for
performance, but for conversation, participation, and genuine community connection.
